No previous experience is necessary.
No Uniform required. Yoga clothes are okay.

About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
The explosive growth of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and other reality-based mixed martial arts events have highlighted the devastating effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Almost unknown outside of Brazil until a couple of decades ago, today it is one of the fastest growing martial arts the world. For self-defense, fitness, and overall enjoyment of the martial arts, a better choice than Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu could not be made.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu primary takes place on the ground with joint locks, chokes and other techniques. While punching and kicking certainly have their place in the martial arts in general, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is known as a gentle art since it allows one to defend themselves without drawing blood. While peaceful, it has a well-deserved reputation for defeating even the toughest of opponents quickly.
Many martial arts require strength, size, or years of diligent study before the practitioner can be effective with them. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is different because it relies on leverage, timing, technique, and the ability to put moves into combination. The beauty of this art is that a smaller, physically weaker person can defeat a larger person since even the strongest person cannot defeat a choke or arm lock. As a result, size and strength matter less than one’s knowledge of submission holds and positional control.
In contrast to traditional martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows the student to implement its techniques right off the bat, teaching moves, escapes, holds, and positions that can be used after only a few lessons. This allows people to wrestle, or roll, with a minimal amount of training to gain the fitness benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It also allows them to apply the techniques they have learned into practice right away. An added benefit is that the nature of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows a beginner and an expert to practice together with minimal adjustment needed.
Regular attendance at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes helps to foster a sense of comradery felt in few other martial arts. Injuries are quite rare in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as opposed to other martial arts, as one is expected to surrender via tapping prior to a joint lock or choke hold. This is in contrast to other martial arts where a single punch or kick can lead to a broken nose or missing teeth.
