Dean Siracusa, president and founder of Summer Hawk Optics, Inc., began his career while attending Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, one of the most prestigious commercial arts schools in the world. While still a student, Dean began shooting for Road & Track Magazine. After graduating with a BFA in Photography, he became Road & Track Magazine’s sole staff photographer. Over the next three years there he honed his photographic skills, shooting every type of motorized vehicle from BMWs to Toyotas in fabulous locations around the world.
In 1992, Dean went out on his own and founded Siracusa Productions, Inc. to create images and commercials primarily for the automotive industry. Dean created images and directed commercials for manufacturers such as Toyota, Lexus, Volkswagen, Ford, Mercedes-Benz and many others.
In 2001 he founded Transtock, Inc. in response to a demand in the stock photography industry. With hundreds of thousands of images and video clips, Transtock is currently the world’s largest stock photo agency that specializes in transportation imagery. Images of all types of transportation are included in the collection. Transtock’s clients include advertising agencies for many Fortune 500 and 100 companies. This image collection is continuously updated by a team of more than 200 talented professional photographers from around the world.
Keenly aware of the needs of the transportation industry and particularly pilots, Dean realized the need for specialty sunglasses compatible with helmets and aviation-style headsets. Dean designed, patented and began manufacturing Flying Eyes sunglasses in 2011 and selling his line of eyewear in 2012. And in 2013 he founded Summer Hawk Optics, Inc. in order to broaden the range of comfortable eyewear to a larger audience.
